It sure is an interesting experience watching yourself on TV. We weren't sure what to expect since we hadn't seen any of the Run My Renovation episodes prior to watching ours. The producer did tell us not to worry, that with this particular show, they make an effort to portray the homeowners in the best way possible. The show is more focused on DIY tips and the viewer's choices. However, with that said, they can't make dorky homeowners appear cool. And we're dorks. We realize this. We've embraced it. And it was hard for us not to be too critical of ourselves while watching it. Here are my three most embarrassing moments for myself while watching:
1. I said "uh huh" a lot. Not a soft "hmmhmm" like I normally do with my mouth closed but a full on Elvis like "uh huh".
2. I wished I would have ditched the vest. I was so worried about being covered up and not exposing any part of me that shouldn't be exposed that I made myself look like I have no figure. I should have just re-worn what I did for the intro video--I looked much better in it.
3. My posture! Oh my. I think I need to start taking pilates classes and work on my core strength.
I promised you all before and after pictures this week but I'm waiting for them to be available online. I did take some pictures but they are grainy. In the meantime, I'll show you the winning votes.
Ceiling:
My vote was for the beadboard and I'm so happy to say it won! I could not have been more excited! Although, I was prepared to paint it if it wasn't the winning vote. :)
Skylight Shade:
The opaque shade got my vote and the voters agreed with me as well!
Carpet Style:
I kept going back and forth on this option. Initially, I declared Frieze a winner, but when I found out the stairs were going to be carpeted, I changed my opinion and went with Cut Loop. The Frieze won and I'm really happy with it. At the moment, I even like it on the stairs but we'll see how long that lasts.
Light Fixture:
This was one of the items Bryan and I did not initially agree on. I liked the Whiton and Bryan liked the Meredith. The Meredith was my least favorite choice by far and when it came for us to declare which one we liked best, Bryan had a change of opinion and chose the Whiton. However, the Meredith won. I still don't like it and I think Bryan dislikes it even more than I do now.
Stairrail:
I picked the solid half wall, Bryan picked the square picket. The square picket won. It looks good in the space, but I think the solid half wall might have been a smidge better.
Bed:
Bryan and I were in complete agreement on this one. We wanted the platform bed hands down. But we got the iron bed. Oh well.
Paint Color:
Honestly, I wasn't excited about any of these options. Initially, I decided that blue was my pick but on camera, I chose the mauve (in hopes that it might lean more gray). Bryan's pick was blue. Neither of us got what we wanted, green was the winner. But really with the paint color, it didn't matter which one won since paint is so easy to change.
To be honest though, even if none of our choices had won we would still love our room. It's amazing how much the team can do in three days and to see our completely unfinished attic (which was a storage room) become a beautiful bedroom is too much! It was overwhelming to see the finished space.
So, any of the winning choices take you by surprise? Did you watch the show? If not, it looks like they're adding full episodes on-line. Ours isn't up yet, but you know I'll be sure to let you know when they are.

I did notice your southern accent came out more than usual. Though, the new jersey's guys accent was way more pronounced. Bryan's got a neural accent- he could easily be a narrator for wild animal tv shows! =) But you guys did look really good! I must confess though- I voted for the iron bed. I was afraid they might make the platform bed into a semi-permant fixture and it would be hard to move it around if you ever wanted too. Plus, having a bed up of the ground will help circulate air so it won't get *super* hot being bed in the summer. Plus it's easier to clean under. (Nasty things can still get under a platform bed- you just can't get to them as easily) But hey, just the fact that half your attic is now finished is awesome!

I watched! I thought you looked great - don't be hard on yourself. It was an amazing thing to win. Even if you had to give up control - totally worth it. I actually like most of the finishes that you ended up with - except for the chandy. I didn't think any of the choices were very bedroom-y - more for an entryway or dining room.
ReplyDeleteI don't have cable, but I really hope I can watch it online. Let us know when it is, cause I really want to check it out. I'm so excited for you! Will you post finished pictures on your blog, too?
ReplyDeleteRobin--I could hear my accent, too! When you can hear your own, it's pretty bad. :) Bryan gets that all the time...maybe he needs to go into voice over work.
ReplyDeleteKai--Thanks for the nice comment! It's so neat that you watched!
Kim--Yes, I hope to be posting pictures soon. I took some that I might post if the good ones aren't on-line soon.
Oh I really don't like the Meredith light. But I do love the iron bed! I really wish I could see the room on the show. Please share pictures soon!
